Reading at home is crucial. Children should read for 15 minutes each night - this can be either their home reader of a book of their own choice. This will be more productive if it is carried out in a calm, quiet environment. We are working on building independence with selecting books. When children have finished the book bands, they use a Book Bingo Card to help select their next book. When finished they must write a comment in their reading record and discuss it with a member of staff before changing it. We also use reading tick sheets to reward the children for the amount of time they spend reading.

Homework: Given out on a Friday and returned the following Wednesday. This will change over the year to a termly project handed in at a given date.

Spellings will be set weekly - Please see 'Homework' for more details.

Times Tables – the government has announced that all Year 4 children in June 2020 will sit a multiplication tables check. This is to ensure all 8 and 9 year olds have learnt their 12 times tables. To prepare for this, it is essential that pupils have their 2, 5, 10, 3 and 4 times tables learnt by Christmas. We will do a times table test every Friday.

PE lessons take place on a Thursday afternoon every week. All children are expected to take part in a full PE kit and trainers/pumps. Earrings can be won at school but, for health and safety reasons, they are not allowed during PE.

Please see the 'Meet the Teacher Leaflet 2018-2019' for more information.
