Mr Cox (our caretaker) helped us to make bread.
First we had to weigh 500 grams of strong bread flour in a bowl together with oil, tepid water and dried yeast. Next we had to mix all the ingredients together and then knead the dough with our hands. We had our morning break whilst the dough got to do ‘its work’. When we saw the size of the dough we all went ‘wow’. We then had to knock the air out of our dough ready to shape it. A piece of dough was given to us to add flavours and create our own shape. One more rise during lunch break then ready to cook and the excited bit – the tasting.
Our next bread investigation lesson was to make our own designs. We had already designed our shape and flavours for our bread, so it was to see how they worked by making the bread and evaluating.
- The best bread in the world
- Interesting experience
- I really enjoyed it and ate all the bread at home
- It was really fun to make and taste
