Years 5 and 6 go sailing

23rd May 2011

39 children from years 5 & 6 enjoyed a week of sailing at Plymouth and Devon Schools Sailing Association at Commercial Wharf, Plymouth. The weather wasn’t very kind to us this year and we all got wet some time during the week on ‘dry’ land. Despite the weather 26 children gained their Level 1 and 13 at Level 2. The children learnt to sail Oppies, Topazes and Wayfarers during the week as well as kayaking.

  • It was good fun.
  • I didn’t like it because when I capsized I got really cold.
  • I ‘turtled’ with Mr Jones in front of a big ship. SCARED!
  • It was a good experience because I’ve never sailed before.
  • It was a very exciting week.
  • I managed to capsize before I left the harbour!
  • On Thursday due to bad weather we had a knotty time. Lucy and I got tied up and we had to unravel ourselves.
