St. Andrew’s believes that homework is an essential part of all pupils’ education. Effective homework gives them the opportunity to extend and consolidate work experienced during lesson time, it encourages them to produce creative, reflective and investigative work independent of the teacher; it also develops skills in personal organisation and a sense of responsibility.
It is a government statutory requirement of schools to provide homework opportunities and guidelines for parents regarding homework as it is vital means of helping to raise pupil achievement and every pupil sees that the school and home are working together in a partnership to provide support and encouragement. It also enables the school to offer some pastoral support beyond the school day.
We follow the Government Guidelines on recommended periods of time to be spent on homework at different Key Stages.
- Years 1 & 2 - 1 hour per week
- Years 3 & 4 - 1 hour 30 minutes per week
- Years 5 & 6 - 2 hours per week
