Year 6
Costume making - The Tempest
- When we had decided what parts we were going to play in The Tempest we had to design our own costumes including what colour and type of materials we would use.
- After we had designed the costume we folded over a plain white sheet and had to draw around our bodies. Some people needed a long tunic; some needed a separate top and bottom.
- We then cut them out.
- After this we had to pin the joins together and then sow them all. Unfortunately, some people sowed the head and arm holes by accident so they had to be unpicked!
- When the costumes were all sown we dyed them different colours. Some wanted a tye dye effect so we attached small cubes with elastic bands on different parts of the costumes. This had a really good effect.
- After this we made alterations to make sure that the costumes fitted ok.
- The final bit of the costume making was to accessorise by adding different bits of material, beads, paper.
- Finally the costumes were ready for our first dress rehearsal!
