Our Victorian Day in Year 6
On 28 th March years 6 & 5 took part in a Victorian school day. We all came dressed as Victorian children and did lessons that they would do.
As we walked in to the room it had been transformed into a Victorian classroom. With the desks one behind the other, girls on one side boys on the other. There was a stage at the front where our teachers who were also dressed up sat.
We had to write and recite a poem called Daffodils by William Wordsworth. After, we had to say our times tables from 1-12 it, was a weird and wonderful morning.
Next we went into the assembly hall and sang hymns, they were an old style, and included old-fashioned words. Then we had our usual assembly with the rest of the school.
After break we split up into two groups. One group did cooking while the other played old playground games.
We cooked fruity biscuits and cakes using Victorian recipes.
On the playground we played games such as blind mans bluff, hopscotch, grannies footsteps and what’s the time Mr. Wolf? We also posed for the pictures shown on the website.
After lunch we split into boys and girls groups and did separate tasks. Boys went into year 5 with Mr. Jones and girls went with Miss. Fitzgerald in Year 6. The boys studied beam engines and drew up plans of them. The girls made peg dolls dressing wooden pegs in old scraps of material; like the ones Victorian girls used to make.
We finished off the brilliant day by sharing our thoughts and then we went home.
