Year 5
St Ives Residential Trip - May 2009
Year 5 spent a week at St Ives for their residential trip where they made studies of the coast and past industries of Cornwall. On the way to St Ives we broke our jounrey and stopped at Charlestown. The children made sketches of a sea stack.
After lunch we made our way to Wheel Martyn were our guide took us through the process of China Clay.
It was a hot day and we started to feel a little tyred (tired)!
We took lots of notes ready to write up next week on our return to school.
In the evening we played bingo outside on the patio.
RNAS Culdrose. We all had a 'try' at being a pilot - although we didn't manage to get the plane off the ground.
How does this work!
A walk to the beach after dinner - the children are keen to start the sandcastle competition.
The boys are working well together. What are they building?
More sandcastles
Panning for gems at Geevor Mine. The girls are hoping to find gold.
Getting ready to go down the mine
Looking at the map at Chysauster to locate the remains of huts.
Sketching the remains of Chysauster village
The children give their ideas as to why the people at the village left.
Some evenings were spent in the hotel grounds playing various games.
Notes were taken at East Pool Beam Engine
Our guides told us about the history of East Pool
We were able to go to the top and look at the 'bob'
One evening at the beach we got
very wet and sandy.
The late night at the beach followed
a session of singing to the hotel
Guests (at their request!).
Learning about World War 2 at Pendennis Castle.
Marching to the gunnery
Exploring the castle. It was a bit windy at the top of the castle - but what a view.
We then made our way back to school very tired but managed to wake up in time for singing for the last half hour.
