Collage work and Zoo visit
As part of our pattern and collage art topic this term, Year Two paid a visit to Dartmoor Zoo to look at colours, patterns and shapes in the animal world. The education department at the Zoo put on a collage workshop where we made our own collages on large hexagonal pieces of wood, using mixed media, including natural animal products like, peacock feathers, snake skin and sheep wool!
We then invited local textile artist, Meg Beable, to come and talk to us about how she makes her collage pictures.
She gave a step-by-step demonstration and the children added some finishing touches to her sunflower collage.
The children then looked at photographs taken at the zoo and designed their own collage picture. They began by painting a background wash onto calico and then created their design using different materials to add texture.
Meg later came back again to review the children’s work.
